Android Alarm Clock Usage

Main UIMain User Interface:

The Main UI page shows the alarm(s) you have set up. For each alarm that has been set up, it allows you to enable or disable the alarm by checking or unchecking the checkbox for the alarm.

At the bottom of the page, it contains buttons that allow you to "Add Alarm", "View Acknowledge Messages", view "Today's Agenda", and configure to "Announce Next Alarm is On" when an alarm comes due. When an alarm comes due, a synthesized audio message announcing the custom alert message you have set up for the alarm will be output. In addition, if you have also enabled the "Announce Next Alarm is On" setting, then the time and date of the next alarm will also be output.

Alarm Settings:Edit Alarm

The Alarm Settings page allows you to configure the alarm settings for a new alarm or an existing alarm, as follows:

  1. Alarm name - this name will show up as the name of the alarm in the Main UI page.
  2. Turn on alarm - turns the alarm on or off by checking or unchecking the checkbox.
  3. Alarm type - contains three options:
    • Daily alarm - an alarm that will come due on a daily basis.
    • Date alarm - an alarm that will come due on a specific date.
    • Date alarm/repeat yearly - an alarm that will come due on a specific date, and every year afterward.
  4. Date for alarm - the date for the alarm. This alarm setting can only be modified if the alarm type is either "Date alarm" or "Date alarm/repeat yearly".
  5. Alarm time - time of the alarm.
  6. Hourly repeat time - this allows you to configure the alarm to repeat every hh:mm after the alarm first came due, where hh is the number of hours, and mm is the number of minutes.
  7. Alarm stop time - for alarm(s) that can be repeated hourly (i.e. "Hourly repeat time" is non-zero), this time represents the time at which the alarm will stop being repeated for the day. A time of 12:00AM means the alarm will last for the entire day, once it is started (specified by "Alarm time").
  8. Days to repeat - the day or days of the week to repeat the alarm. This alarm setting can only be modified if the alarm type is "Daily alarm".
  9. Enable notification - if this alarm setting is checked, when the alarm comes due, a notification is entered into the system and will appear on the notification bar.
  10. Alert message - the message you wanted when the alarm comes due. This message will be output as an audio stream synthesized using the Android Text To Speech engine.
  11. Alert msg repeat count - number of times to output the alert message when the alarm comes due. "No repeat" will cause the alert message to be output one time, "Repeat once" will cause the alert message to be output two times, etc.

At the bottom of the page, it contains buttons to allow you to "Save Alarm", "Cancel" which discard the changes for the alarm, and "Delete Alarm" that permanently remove this alarm from Alarm Clock. For creating a new alarm, only the "Save Alarm" button is enabled. i.e. you will not be able to discard the alarm changes, nor permanently remove the alarm. Also, when creating a new alarm, all alarm settings will be populated with default value.

Alarm NotificationsAlarm Notifications:

When an alarm configured with notification set to enabled goes off, a notification will appear on the notification bar of the device. You can then open the notification and enter a reminder for yourself. Notifications are kept on a daily basis, and are kept for the previous 7 days. On the Alarm Clock Main UI page, you can click the "View Acknowledge Messages" button and view one of the previous 7 days' reminder message(s) that you have entered.

For example, if you have set up an alarm to take certain medication, and enabled the alarm with notification. When the alarm goes off, you then take your medication. You can then also open up the notification associated with the alarm and entered a message that you have taken the medication. Later on, if for some reason, you have forgotten whether you have taken the medication or not. You can go into Alarm Clock and view the notification messages, and the message that you entered earlier will confirmed that you have indeed taken your medication.

Today's Agenda
Today's Agenda:

If you click the "Today's Agenda" button in the Main UI page, a list of remaining alarm(s) or task(s) for the rest of the day will appear, which can serve as a reminder of what the rest of the day is going to be like for you. Hence, your "Personal Assistant".
